The Brief: Using the Elements in Your Brand
How fire, earth, air, and water shape your visuals.
In one of my favorite pieces from last year, I shared the four astrological placements I look at first when thinking about branding: your Ascendant, your Midheaven, the sign of the ruler of your Midheaven, and your Sun.
Those four placements tell me what your brand is here to express. They help me understand the different ways your brand wants to exist in the world. Once I know those placements, I like to stack them together into what I call your brand stack. Mine, for example, is Leo, Taurus, Pisces, and Capricorn.
From there, I look at the elements behind those signs.
The elements in astrology are such a rich layer to explore because they describe the energetic texture each sign carries. They also reveal patterns across your chart, showing where things feel grounded or expressive, cerebral or emotional, and help us translate something abstract into something visual, tangible, and usable in your brand.
Step One: Find Your Brand Stack
Your brand stack is made up of:
Your Ascendant sign
Your Midheaven sign
The sign of the ruler of your Midheaven
Your Sun sign
When you line those four signs up, patterns start to appear.
Do you skew more Earth than anything else?
Is there a lot of Fire?
Is Air missing entirely?
This gives you more information than people realize.
Step Two: Look at Elemental Dominance
Using my own stack:
Leo (Fire), Taurus (Earth), Pisces (Water), Capricorn (Earth)
you can immediately see an Earth-dominant brand, supported by Fire and Water.
That explains a lot about how I approach my work. The Earth dominance shows up in my pull toward grounded, timeless structure, while the Fire and Water add warmth, creativity, and emotional depth.
Elemental dominance doesn’t box you in. It simply gives you the baseline from which you build.
Step Three: Each Element Decoded
Fire Brands (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius)
Bold. Expressive. Magnetic.
Fire-dominant brands are here to be felt immediately. They’re confident, visible, and unafraid of presence.
In practice, Fire often looks like:
Strong contrast and saturated colors
Statement typography
Imagery with movement, light, or drama
Messaging that feels declarative and alive
An undeniable sense of confidence and magnetism
Earth Brands (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn)
Grounded. Refined. Trustworthy.
Earth-dominant brands value longevity over trends. They feel stable, considered, and well-crafted.
In practice, Earth often looks like:
Neutral or muted palettes (stone, clay, moss, chocolate)
Clean layouts with strong structure
A focus on materials, quality, and consistency
Messaging rooted in expertise and reliability
Earth brands feel like something you could hold in your hands. Something that would work now, 50 years ago, or 50 years from now.
Air Brands (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius)
Cerebral. Modern. Communicative.
Air-dominant brands lead with ideas. They feel light, curious, and editorial.
In practice, Air often looks like:
Plenty of space to breathe
Typography-forward design
Flexible, modular layouts
Messaging that feels witty, intelligent, or conversational
Outside-the-box thinking
Air brands feel like a really good conversation—where ideas run loose and things just click.
Water Brands (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces)
Intuitive. Emotional. Immersive.
Water-dominant brands lead with feeling. They’re poetic, romantic, and deeply personal.
In practice, Water often looks like:
Soft gradients and fluid shapes
Muted blues, silvers, and sea-glass tones
Dreamy or cinematic imagery
Messaging centered on transformation, healing, or inner worlds
A sense of invitation—to feel, to soften, to dream
Water brands don’t shout. They pull you into other realms.
Step Four: Finding Balance
Most brands aren’t made of one element alone. Your dominant element (if you have one) sets the foundation. The other elements add texture, contrast, and nuance.
This is why astrology is so compelling when applied to branding. Just like every chart is different, every brand should be too. Branding gets a lot easier when you stop asking what’s trending and start asking what you’re made of.
Shameless Plug 🫧
If your chart already wrote the blueprint for your brand, the Brand Kits for the Signs are the aesthetic translation. Fonts, palettes, imagery, all curated to help you show up in the world the way your astrology always intended. Your energy is iconic. Your visuals should be, too.
With love,
Daniela
